I am just wondering what test do they give you for memory.I went to the va to see about why i am having a hard time going to sleep so the sleep doctor sent me to see the pysch doctors well while being evaluated to see if i needed to see a psych doctor They gavey asked me those normal short questions ,well as it turns out i did not pass. So now they are going to run test on my memory to see what is going on with that.Has anyone gone through this before and what exactly is this test. She told me that the test would take the whole day but this has me ol worried since I am not sure what to expect. My memory problem can also explain why I seem to forget how to write some times.I even forget how to write my last name at times and thats not good .Please help and thank you.

I have memory issues also I rememebr one night at dinner I couldn't remember what the name of the stuff in the bottle was so I told my daughter to pass me the bottel of red stuff, and she laughed at me it was ketchup, I used to forget to pick the kids up from school after work, doctors appointments etc, even notebooks don't help, I use to los ethem or forget to look at them, now I have a wife who keeps track of all this stuff for me, and I have my bills set up to remind me a week ahead of tiem online to pay them, there has been a lot of adapting to deal with the loss of memeory, but there are numerous reasons I could have it, the stroke in 1992, the premature shrinking of my brain, the blows to the head while inside the tanks that TC cupola hurts when it slams into your head even with a steel pot on, and a few other blows, the night I was robbed and mugged in Alaska also included numerous and repeated vicious kicks to my head, so can I point my finger at any one thing and said that it caused it, nope but as Popeye says "I am what I am" a good spouse is critical to us with memory problems as long as they understand the fact that it is not anything you can help. I suggest you sing up for a birthday club online that reminds you of birthdays and anniversaries especially of the spouse lol

I have memory problems too, sometimes I forget what I started out to do, such as walking from one room to another, in the time it takes to go from one room to another, I forget what I walked into the room for. And I live in a 30 foot long travel trailer with three (or is it four, How do you count a living room/Kitchen combo?) rooms.
My PTSD also makes me have dis-associate memory. I cant remember peoples names because I have a fear of developing a relationship with them and them getting killed. Its very embarassing not to be able to say someones name. The va put me on some medicine that was supposed to help my memory but they did not put what it was for on the bottle. I forgot to take the medicine. They send me appointments all of the time two weeks before the appointment and I forget to go to them. When the rat(er) tried to use my missing appointments against me I countered that I was missing the apointements because of one of the claimed conditions that they said was not severe enough to rate service connection. I have a college degree but cant use it because I cant remember any of the things I learned. "Normal is the average of extremes." Einstien was so smart he couldnt tie his shoes. Im so smart Im stupid, so I guess I average out to being normal.

I also have big time memory problems, I have also been diagnosed with ptsd. I was given that 4 hour test and didn't do so well but the VA doesn't seem to care about their own tests as I'm not getting disability or even a C&P for memory loss. I only remember appts when they call me 2 days before I have them, I have to call back to see what the appt is for, I really have a problem with names, and yes walking from room to room I forget what I went there for. I guess I have to look up the other symptoms of ptsd because I didn't know memory loss was one of them, I'll probably forget to do that!

Well I can tell you from recent experience, it depends on the facility you go to for diagnosis. I have been to several facilities, they though I had PTSD, but come to find out I have early onset dementia. The testing I went through took several days and I was observed for everything from a psychological disorders and so on. I am now seeing a neurologist and preparing to head for Walter Reed. The doctors cannot determine what the cause of the neurological symptoms are but concede that I have some sorta of nerve/brain degeneration. Good luck and if there is anything else please let me know and I might be able to guide you in the right direction.
