Hello all, Does the VA reconize a Diagnisis of GWI/GWS? I vaguely remember something about that the VA rejects claims for this diagnosis since it does not exist.

Im no expert but I have never seen a rating for any gwi oe gws. I think you need to break your illness down into individual complaints. I actually think it works better for the vets this way. I think your combined rating is going to be higher than if they try to lump it all in together.

The terminology has changed over the years from "Gulf War Illness" (singular) to "Gulf War Illnesses" (plural), "Persian Gulf Illnesses", "unexplained illnesses", or "undiagnosed illnesses"; but, yes the VA does recognize the term. My own rating sheet says I'm rated for "Gulf War Illness", but that was done 10 years ago. Shane's right... It works out better for the veteran to be evaluated for each condition separately.
You may just need to inform your primary care physician of the VA Healthcare Protocol policy for evaluating it, or ask him/her to refer you to the Environmental Agents Coordinator for a Persian Gulf Registry exam to be fully evaluated for any and all conditions you may have:

I thought it might matter to know that I have in writing from VA Regional/Cheyenne, that the irritable bowel rated at 30% is considered "secondary to Gulf War Syndrome". A variety of names to call this multi-symptom illness, but my paperwork dated 2005 states Gulf War Syndrome.

I asked a new Dr. since I moved yet again to do an exam and do a report. through the years I have diagnosis like CFS,FMS, depression, organic brain disorder,. The Doctor wanted to know what diagnosis would help me since all are connected. My major symptoms are muscle and joint pain with stiffness, headaches, confusion, memory loss, fatigue, diahrea, and reactionary depression.

I would guess that a diagnosis of Chronic fatigue /irritable bowl/Headaches/ Depresion secondary to the previous would be the best chance of getting approval. Some people have been able to get chronic fatigue and fibromialgia dignosed and recieve a separate rating for each. If you had to pick one Chronic fatigue I believe gets a higher rating for the maximum than Fibromialgia does. Keep in mind that this is just a guess at best. There are way to many differences between rating centers to give a firm idea on what does and does not get approved. Also it depends on what diagnosis your doctor feels you have. I think what I would do is print out the criteria of each illness and take that in to your doctor and see what He/She thinks you have. Then file a claim based on that.
