You can read for yourself what the VA is (should be) using in evaluating, treating, and rating PTSD in these links. Many times they don't use their own criteria because so many of the VA's staff isn't aware of the policies they should be using or even 'who' is eligible to make the evaluations.
Also, (because of the number of brain conditions found in GW troops) make sure you have been evaluated for any possible neurological conditions (by use of CTscans, MRIs, etc.) for your symptoms before settling for a diagnosis of PTSD.
