Im really tired of this. I have requested my medical records almost a year ago. I filed a claim ion december and the VA began looking for them. In may I got a VSO involved because everyone says they help a lot. I called him in june, he was great looked up info on the computer and told me the status of my claim. Called him today and he seems anoyed that I called and said I will hear the status of my claim before he does. Now someone tell me why I have this guy? Im ticked now. The 1800 person is more help than he is. The VA has requested my medical records all the way down to company level now with no results. Im thinking its time to get the congressman involved. [Mad]

From my experience, I have gotten much more help from the folks on this board than I did any of the SOs I had. I only used my Service Officer as a way of getting paperwork to the VARO, but I still certified mailed everything as well. I did some things that made my Service Officer mad, contacting a Congressman etc.... but my dad gave me the best piece of advice in life moments before I said "I do", he told me, "Son, remember this, It is ALWAYS easier to ask for forgiveness than it is for permission in the first place". I have lived by this advice since this day, EVERYONE always remember that YOU are ultimately responsible for your paperwork and claims, NO ONE cares as much about getting the job done than YOU.
PS>>>>Where has everyone gone? Has drbob retired from here when the board crashed????

Hey Everyone, hambone,

Greetings to those who know me and hello to those that don't. Good to see the board back up.

I'm not retired just very busy with work and new projects.

May veterans continue to help veterans,

Hey Plowboy,

Thank you for the welcome back to the board! It's good to be home. I have been working behind the scenes to help veterans and may have some good news in the near future.

I like to see members networking and doing all they can to further knowledge to better diagnose and treat Gulf War Illness. With our military now coming back from Iraq I hope that fellow brother and sister veterans can help them too.

In community,

drbob

I also had alot of trouble with VSO's. Including two who flat refused to do the claim paperwork. After 10 years of lost this and you didn't do that, I finally contacted my congressmans office. This made alot of people in the regional level mad, but only because they didn't want the oversight. Your congressman often has the contacts required to find out why you can't get medical records and also if you give them permission they can sometimes peek into your claim file to make sure that all of your documentation is accounted for. This worked for me as the VA was set to refuse my claim based on medical records that they had never requested from my private doctors, we were able to head 'em off by sending those "missing" documents by certified mail. If you aren't getting results from your VSO, maybe you should try contacting the county that pays for them to do their job and talk with someone higher up like in your governors office. Definitly I would put feelers out for the congressman as well. Good Luck, mandy

Myself I tracked down records about some court martials thru DA HQs Clerk of Court, the VA nor the NSO's would do it, but it was the difference in my claim being approved for PTSD, 4 guys going to Leavenworth under general court martial for assault and attempted murder make a good case for PTSD, up until I found the court martials the VARO actually told me it was my own fault that I got beat up, I was drunk that day and so I deserved what I got. Other records I was denied from the IOM, Dr Page actually, he claimed the IOM was not a govt agency and they were not beholden to FOIA requests, 3 days after I contacted Senator Kennedy's office I had a Fedex box with everything I had asked for. Funny how that works isn't it?

Howdy Testvet,

Me . . . a bad hombre? Nah, I'm wearing a white hat! LOL

Ironically enough I chose that very same avatar on RealCops earlier and when I saw it in the selection here my gut told me to go for it.

Keeping those doggies rollin',
