Just wasted another day at the VA. My right knee has hurt so bad can't walk on it. Feels like I twisted it or some injury but just woke up to this on Sunday. They did X-rays and the range of motion thing and some labs. Same ole thing nothing. What could make a leg feel so bad without any swelling or arthritis in the x-rays. Strange!!! And inconclusive again. I wrapped the Lidocain patches around it, took a vicoden and now I can't feel it. All better!!!!! But what is the cause? Felt stupid even going in and having it checked as I knew the outcome.

So never feel stupid or "its no big deal" thing when your in pain,
Your body is talking to you.

Just like mine tells me to "loose 20lbs" everytime i put on my pants

Keith,

There are things that will not show up on an x-ray.

My wife has had both knees operated on for damage to the cartilage inside the joint. This injury is very painful, but may not swell up quickly.

An MRI will show the detail and indicate if intervention is needed.

Keith,
Even if you didn't find out the cause of the pain, for what's it's worth, you have made a paper trail with them on this. It might count for something somewhere down the line.

Thanks everyone. I've had alot of x-rays on both knees as when I was till working walking on the hangar floor(concrete) all day was BAD. Its just never hurt this bad and now I don't use it much LOL. I would think they would do an MRI one of these days just for the heck of it. But yes it is documented again so they don't think I had some miraculuse recovery. I was actually hoping somebody would say "you know we had this one patient that had this and it turned out to be this or that" leading to a possible solution. Guess thats in a perfect world or the things of dreams. Suck it up and drive on as there may be a day when it becomes worse. I know some of you are there already and you are in my thoughts are with you, if nobody has ever said thank you for sacrificing your health serving your country and The People I do so now.

Keith,

In the civilian side of things, the first thing they ask you when they think of an MRI is "how good is your insurance?" The test is pretty expensive.

The thing is, the MRI shows the "soft tissue." X-Rays only show things that are hard, like bones. If you look at an X-Ray, you see the bones and anything metal, but only see the outline of the body, or some shadows where things are denser (those who know me are thinking, denser like my head). The MRI shows organs, cartlilage, tendons and ligaments in great detail. If there is a tear or some other damage, it shows up clearly. From that the doctors can get a good idea if it needs surgery, whether arthoscopicly or if they need to open it up all the way. Try questioning the doctor as to if it could be cartlilage damage, and try to push him or her to order the MRI. If the VA docs don't want to go that far, bring a recommendation from a civilian doctor and have that put in the record. Chances are the VA will order the test. Best of luck.
