Hello everybody

This is a subject not directly related to Gulf War service, but it may compound the effects of Gulf War Illness and I sure there are many who have been contaminated by both situations. It also goes to show how treacherous our government is. The higher ups at Camp Lejeune knew about the problem at least as early as 1983, but swept it under the rug until 1985. National Defense? Who is going to protect us from them?!

It seems that the water supply at several locations on Camp Lejeune, North Carolina were contaminated with Volatile Organic Compounds from the years 1968 to 1985.

One of the locations in question is the Terawa Terrace family housing area. I lived at CL for two years in about 1970 as a child, but I lived in the Berkley housing area, so hopefully I didn't ingest contaminated water.

The official line is that the chemicals would only affect infants and unborn babies, but, as the first link shows, that claim is dubious.

you ought to go to the Edgewood Arsenal site and see what the base occupants all military and dependents were drinking they did not do the first EPA test unitl 1984 and the EPA made them cap the water wells and had to pipe water in from out of the area, they then had to close the town of Edgewood's water wells and pipe in water for them nasty stuff there, the War Dept opened Edgewood Arsenal as a chemical weapons place in 1917 one of the statements on an EPA report states that the area of Aberdeen Proving Grounds known as Edgewood will be hazardou to human health for years if not decades, and they are still using it, they have the base housing area up for sale, and old barrels of toxic material are still being found there, go figure help the poor people who will end up living in that new low cost apts http://cfpub1.epa.gov/supercpad/cursites/csitinfo.cfm?id=0300421

Yes, Testvet, imagine paying people to slowly poison you and your family!

At the risk of getting kicked off of here, or being put under surveillance, Jefferson's every 20 years spiel makes more and more sense to me as time goes by.

Can't get kicked off for such a statement. That idea is the very heart of democracy, from the MAN himself. Now that only the very rich and the powerful even stand a chance at major elections it is only going to worse with time. Not that there is not some very good elected officials that do try to stand for whats right instead of who's got the biggest wallet. Jefferson's intellect allowed him to foresee many of the problems our country faces today and back then(i.e. his dislike of the 2 strong parties) but finding the right solution proves far more difficult.

As for surveillance, it would be nice to know that they do spy on us, that would indicate they fear what we think and believe, that is power, the power of the People.

You know, I ran that Jefferson bit by my dad a while back. He said he meant a bloodless revolution, that that's what Jefferson had in mind; we should clean house through the election process. LOL! That might have worked back 200 years ago, but it definitely won't work now. The system's too corrupt.

I hope I had the presence of mind not tell the old leatherneck that wasn't the kind of revolution I thought was called for any way. Then again, he might agree with me, but probably not. He still thinks we can fix things by electing the right leaders. Smart guy stuck in a dumb, deep rut.

GW2,

When I left CLNC in '94, the doc put in my final physical that I was exposed to high levels of lead in the water at Camp Lejuene. He also put that I was exposed to asbestos. When I asked WTF, he told me that "everyone" knows about the lead in the water and the asbestos in the buildings. First I had heard about after being stationed there for 5 years.
